Catching up from the Portfolio Trip!

The Portfolio class had an amazing time in Washington, DC in late November, 2013.  We were able to stay close by the Key Bridge and had a short walk to both the metro into the city and the Corcoran (where the Portfolio event was held- see photos below that include some of our students during their reviews, and other great images of the artwork on display in the galleries there).

The view from our Hotel, crack of dawn and mid-day.

Crossing the Key Bridge into Georgetown for dinner!

Yummy dinner with a couple giant buddas...
 Into the metro we go!

Waiting in line before the actual Portfolio event.

The exhibit of bird-inspired costumes filled the room where some of the art school reps are reviewing.

  Sam in conversation.

  Tate sharing his work.
The larger gallery of the Corcoran filled with teen artists from all over!
  Some of their permanent collection.
An incredible installation by contemporary artist Mia Feuer.  A petroleum 'ice skating rink' was below this.
I had to peek into the amazing clay studios at the Corcoran!
 Jessie getting a review.
Oh, you know, it's just me, a polar bear, and Obama outside the White House.
Pow-wow back at the hotel with Shan, fellow staff chaperone extraordinaire and all our artists.

Fiber Arts work towards MLK project

Jan French is helping to install a school-wide project and is seen here explaining it to our Upper School Fiber Arts class.  Then the students work towards creating braids, crochet chains and other fiber based strands as hair for a giant mask.  The installation will be up during the MLK Celebration on Monday, January 20th!
